Get to know Chishui Shizhang Waterfall Group

Travel Guide - Maoling Mausoleum

Located about 40 kilometers (about 25 miles) away from Xian City China vacation deals, Xian Maoling Mausoleum is the tomb of Liu Che(157 BC - 87 BC), the Emperor Wu of Western Han Dynasty(206 BC - 24 AD). Known as 'the Chinese Pyramid', Maoling Mausoleum is not only the largest mausoleum but also the mausoleum which has the richest burial contents of all mausoleums of Emperors during the Western Han Dynasty. Meanwhile, Maoling Mausoleum was the one took the longest time to build during Western Han Dynasty, it consumed 53 years.

Liu Che, the fifth Emperor of the Western Han Dynasty, was a great fedul Emperor. He was the founder Emperor of the Qin Dynasty (221BC - 206BC). During his 54-year reign, he did so much to make the country prosperous by consolidating and strengthening the unification of many nationalities. The Maoling Mausoleum is surrounded by the city wall, which is 431 meters (about 1,414 feet) long from east-to-west and 415 meters (about 1,362 feet) long from south-to-north. According to historical records, Emperor Liu Che used one-third of the taxes to build his tomb which was filled with large number of burial objects. Moreover, over 20 tombs now still accompany Emperor Wu's Maoling Mausoleum. Most of them are the tombs of imperial wives, meritorious ministers and worthy nobles. The Tomb of Huo Qubing is also located among these tombs, which is much more famous for its magnificent stone carvings.
